8.3.63 Wykin Hall Farmhouse

II

House, now farmhouse. Late C17/early C18. Red brick with plain tile
roof and brick ridge stacks and end stacks. L-shaped plan. Principal
range aligned north-west/south-east facing south-west. At the
south-east end of this range projecting north-east and facing
south-east is a wing of the same date. C19 extensions towards the
north-west end of the main front. South-west front: 2 storeys. 5
gabled bays, the central gable smaller. Irregular 3 gabled service
block addition of the early C19 to the left obscuring the 2 left hand
bays of the main house, the centre bay of the main house has a glazing
bar sash window occupying the position of what was probably the main
entrance. Glazing bar sashes to the 2 right hand bays, 3 at first
floor level and one to ground floor right. Half-glazed door to right of
centre within a glazed lean-to porch. South-east front: 2 storeys and
3 gabled bays with a first floor band broken by C19 glazing bar sashes
to left and centre, right hand bay at first floor level is blind but
the band is broken here too, so there was probably a window here
formerly. Small central sash at ground level occupying the position of
the main C19 entrance, flanked by 2 very large glazing bar casements.
North-east front: Projecting 2 gabled bay wing to the left and 3
gabled bays of main range set back to right. Blind windows in the
gables of the main range and blocked windows with 3-centred arches in
wing, including one blocked cross-window to right hand return.
Otherwise irregular C19 and C20 fenestration. C20 glazed porch in
re-entrant angle between main range and wing. Bands at first floor and
eaves levels. B.O.E. pp. 429-30.
