SD 52NE WALTON-LE-DALE off DAUB HALL LANE
5/120 Black Brook House - - II
House, several periods of building but mainly C18 or early C19. Pink washed stucco on stone and possibly some brick, hipped slate roof with one ridge chimney and 2 other chimneys. Roughly F-shaped plan, a range of older farm buildings forming a receding wing at the left end. Two storeys. Long north-facing front, slightly angled at junction of building, making a range of 5 windows; entrance in 4th bay, flanked by single-light windows with glazing bars, has open-pedimented doorcase of Tuscan columns with entablatures, and semi-circular fanlight with intersecting glazing bars; later rectangular bay window left of door; otherwise, boxed sash windows with glazing bars on both floors. Three similar windows at 1st floor of west end, which was formerly the entrance front and has 2 very tall boxed sash windows with glazing bars flanking a French window opening onto a rectangular stone balustraded terrace. Rear has gabled extension with modern semi-circular ground floor bay, and inter alia 3 sashed windows. Many of the sashed windows contain crown glass. Interior: open well staircase of early C19 type, with scrolled brackets, stick balusters, and handrail ending in a scroll.
