Public house, hotel and restaurant. Dated TW 1753 on brick by door. Cross wing
to left incorporates fragments of C16 timber-framed building but has been much
rebuilt C18-C19. Red brick, ground floor and gable end of cross wing
whitewashed. Slate roof with brick gable copings and brick chimneys. Main
block is of 3 storeys and 3 bays, with band-course at first floor level, and
dentil eaves. C20 3-light wooden casements, the ground and first floor windows
with top lights and good cambered brick arches, the upper window with single
horizontal glazing bars. First and second floor windows have C20 louvred
shutters. C20 door with C20 flat brick head between left bays. Projecting to
left is a 2-storey gabled cross wing with C20 cross casements and single light
in gable end. To rear of this is a later C19 brick extension. Other C20 rear
extensions. Front bay of cross wing retains ties and principals of former C16
trusses, and heavy C16 floor joists. Rear truss was probably open.
