Monument to Edward
Thring in churchyard

Monumental cross. Late C19. Grey granite. Celtic style cross with finely-carved
roundels, in memory of Edward Thring, headmaster of Uppingham School and responsible
for its expansion and development, who died 1887. Inscribed "This cross was erected
to the memory of a beloved teacher by those of his boys who were at Uppingham Oct 22
1887".
