Details
SP 8699-8799 UPPINGHAM HIGH STREET EAST 4/24 (north side)
10.11.55 No 27 (previously listed as Premises 40 yards east of Gairnlea) GV II
House. Probably mediaeval origin, largely rebuilt early C17. Ashlar with plain concrete riles to front slope of roof and Collyweston stone slates to rear. Coped west gable on decorative kneeler, ridge and west end stacks with brick shafts on stone bases. L-plan. Two storeys and attic. Three window range. Two 2-storey mullioned bay windows, canted at ground floor level but becoming rectangular at level of first floor window, flank early C20 Tudor arched entrance. To right, round-headed entrance (originally to cross passage) with impost blocks, and keystone and cornice over, 3-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned window above. Hipped dormer window and 2 C20 skylights (replacing dormers). Stair turret at angle of main block and rear wing. The building probably originally continued further to the east.
