DALTON SD 40 NE 9/38 Gatehouse approx.10metres south of Ashurst's Hall 22-2-1967 GV II

Gatehouse to Ashurst's Hall(q.v.) Late C17. Sandstone rubble with artificial stone tile roof. A symmetrical composition of 2 storeys in centre with a single-storey bay set back to each side. These flanking bays each have a 2-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with hood, and a monopitch roof behind a saddlebacked coping. In the centre, above the doorway, is a 2-light chamfered mullioned window restored in the late C20. Below it is a blank plaque with hood mould. The outer doorway has a moulded round arch with keystone, and moulded imposts. The coping above this central bay has 3 segmental projections.
