DALTON BEACON LANE (off) SD 50 NW 10/42 Ashurst's Beacon 22-4-1967 II
Beacon tower. 1798. Sandstone rubble. Square plan, on square base. Upper part stepped back to carry pyramidal spire. On 3 sides are blocked windows with stone surrounds and keyed lintels. On the south side is a similar blocked doorway. Said to be built as a watch tower to warn of a French invasion.
