4/11 Nutters Platt Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, dated 1653. Pebbledashed brick, slate roof. Basically a 2-bay baffle-entry plan with crosswing at right end added to original house which was then altered internally. Except for gable wall projecting slightly at right end, with one square 2-light casement window on each floor, the front is symmetrical. Two-storey gabled porch has doorway with stone jambs and large stone lintel lettered in relief:

WILLIAM MODS LE BVLDED THIS HOVS. AD 1653

and square 2-light casement above; ground floor has one 3-light casement each side of porch, 1st floor has two 2-light casements each side; all windows have stone jambs, sills and heads and appear C19 or C20. Three chimney stacks, one in line with the entrance, one at right end of right bay, and one in right wall of wing. Single storey outshut behind 1st bay.
