MAWDESLEY SYD BROOK LANE SD 51 NW 9/169 Syd Brook Lane Farmhouse 17.4.67 - II

Farmhouse. Dated 1709 on east gable, part perhaps earlier; altered. Handmade brick with stone quoins, some coursed sandstone, on plinth of coursed sandstone; slate roof. T-plan: 3 bays with rear wing, short outshut to front of 1st bay (assuming south side to be front). Two storeys; south front has 3 large 3-light windows on each floor and a small 2-light window to the outshut, those at ground floor segmental-headed; no door visible, but chimney stack on ridge at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays. Left gable rendered, with one window on each floor; right gable of stone with flight of external steps to loft door, a datestone over this lettered F ; rear has segmental-headed 2-light window to the 3rd bay, a board I E 1709 door next to the wing; wing has a 3-light casement on each floor, the lower segmental-headed, and a gable chimney. All windows have horizontal- rectangular panes. Interior: rear wing contains large cambered hearth bressummer extending full width of wing, room above has partition close to this line, possibly remains of smoke bay; otherwise altered.
