1/115 Paa Farmhouse 16-11-1954 - II

House, late C17th. Pebbledashed rubble with worn sandstone dressings and stone slate roof. Double-pile plan with central 2-storey gabled porch. 2 storeys, with one bay on each side of the porch. Windows mullioned, with outer chamfer and inner ovolo moulding. Those on the 1st floor are of 3 lights. Those on the ground floor have hoods, the left-hand one being of 4 lights, the right-hand one being similar but now having its central mullion missing. The 1st floor of the porch oversails on a moulded string and has a stepped 3-light window with hood. The door surround is cyma moulded with an elliptical arched head. At the left of the lintel 'R' is inscribed: it is badly worn but is said by the tenant to have had the date '1671'. Gable chimneys, the right- hand (east) stack projecting with offsets. The rear wall has mullioned windows. Inside, the left-hand front room has a wide fireplace with chamfered jambs and a modern timber lintel. Set into its left-hand side is a bread oven. The Provisional list describes a fireplace inscribed: 'RAD 1692' in the right-hand room, now removed.
