9/199 Beaumont Hall 2. 5. 1968 II

House. 1602 with later additions. Heavily restored early C20th. Sandstone rubble, pebbledashed at front, with slate roof. Original house of 2 units with central entry now at right-hand end of facade. 2 storeys with attics. Early house, between central diagonal chimney caps and right-hand gable, has blocked central doorway. To the left of this is a modern copy of a 5-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with hood mould. To the right of the former doorway is a similar, but original, window. Original rebated and chamfered mullioned windows on the 1st floor, of 4 lights, 2 lights and 3 lights. All windows in the left-hand half of the facade are modern copies. At the left of the facade is a gable with a 4-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with hood mould on the ground floor and a similar window with 5 lights on the 1st floor. To the right is a single-storey porch with hipped stone slate roof and a 5-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window in its front wall. Right-hand gable of house has a 4-light reproduction rebated and chamfered mullioned window with hood mould to the left, and a one-light chamfered surround to the right. On the 1st floor are 2 original 2-light rebated and chamfered mullioned windows with hoods. A similar window lights the attic. Rear wall of original house has a 2-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with hood on the ground floor and a similar window without hood on the 1st floor. A later extension, to the right at the rear, has mullioned windows of C19th or C20th type. The front unit of the rear wing is of C17th origin, with, on the right-hand wall, a one-light rebated and chamfered window on the ground floor and a 3-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window on the 1st floor. Further gabled extensions to the rear, with remains of window dressings of late C18th type. Porch in angle between house and later wings has one-light chamfered window surround with a 2-centred arched head. Interior. Left-hand room of original house has fireplace with chamfered jambs and lintel. Similar, wider, fireplace in right-hand room has the following in raised letters: '1602 THOMAS BRATHWAT. G.B.'.
