II

Cottage. Early C18 estate cottage. Built of red brick in Flemish bond. Pegtiled roof, hipped to one end and gabled to other with brick chimneystack. A 2 bay end chimneystack house of 2 storeys and basement. 2 windows. Brick modillions eaves cornice. Front elevation (now opposite to the road) has 2 3-light wooden casements in C18 pegged architraves but later wooden casements. Ground floor windows have cambered head linings. Central doorcase with cambered head and modern door. Left side has C19 cambered casement and modern gabled and tiled weatherhood. Integral outshot to rear with catslide roof and 4 mainly modern casements. Interior has cellar with paved floor and reused C17 plank door. Outshot (formerly dairy) and living room also has brick floors. Living room has brick inglenook fireplace with wooden bressumer having l¼ inch chamfered beam with lamb's tongue stop and salt niche. Spine beam with 1 inch chamfer with lamb's tongue stops and the floor joists are also chamfered with lamb's tongue stops. Main bedroon has 2 original 4 plank doors and late C19 Art Nouveau style firegrate. 2 more plank doors on this floor. Roof has through purlins and collar braces and has original wooden pegs. No ridgepiece.
