House, now flats.
Designed and built by Sir James Picton, the architect and historian. Inscription on frieze:, "Laus Deo 1847". Stone with slate roof. L-plan with octagonal turret in angle and octagonal extension to south-east, 2 storeys with attic. Drip mould over ground floor, top frieze and cornice, inscription to turret. Windows are mostly mullioned, that to
left of turret in projection under lean-to to roof. Gabled bay to right of turret has 2-storey canted bay window with parapet. 2 shaped gables with finials. Entrance to turret in
Jacobean style with segmental head and curved spandrels, flanking columns taper towards bases, cornice and strapwork cresting; now a window. Octagonal extension once the library, one storey with Lombard frieze, and Picton arms, now much altered with inserted window and rooflight in new mansard roof, chimney removed. C20 extensions adjoin library. Sir James Picton lived here until his death in 1889.
