(north side) 12/159 Nos 1 to 5 inclusive Mill Lane Cottages and Providence Chapel

GV II

Cottage row and chapel. Late C18 and early C19. Red brick with plain tiled roof. Nos 2 to 5 of two storeys with 4 stacks. Four glazing bar sashes alternating with 3 blank window spaces on first floor and 4 glazing bar sashes with 4 rib and stud doors all with round heads on ground floor. No 1 an early C19 addition 2 storeys and hipped roof with 2 glazing bar sashes on first floor and 1 on ground floor with rib and stud door to left with traceried fanlight. Chapel at end right built as Wesleyan chapel, dated and inscribed : Providence Chapel 1822. Two blank window spaces and central glazing bar sash on first floor and central boarded door on ground floor in double rebated surround. The older portion of the cottage row is associated with the building of Eastry Workhouse.
