Farmhouse, now house, c1400 and C16, rubble stone with stone tiled
roofs, coped gables, ridge stack and rear wall stack to main
range. North end stack to C16 rear wing. East end gable has
unusual c1400 octagonal pinnacle cowl. 2-storeys. Long house plan
with converted c1400 barn to west. Main house 3-window range, 2
upper: early c19 16-pane small sashes and eaves-breaking 2-light
ovolo-moulded mullion window to left; ground floor 16-pane window
in frame of former cyma-moulded 2-light mullion window with
dripstone over, pair of 12-pane windows in moulded surround with
renewed hoodmould, and to left, under single hoodmould, oak plank
door in cyma moulded doorcase and C20 pair of 12-pane sashes in
moulded surround. East end wall has ground floor 16-pane sash in
moulded surround with dripstone and first floor 12-pane sash with
hoodmould. West end, under continuous roof is former barn with C20
openings including left end dormer gable. Rear loft stairs. Rear
wing has west side dormer gable with 2-light ovolo-moulded window
and ground floor renewed single light and 2-light ovolo-moulded
window under continuous hoodmould.
Interior: continuous 8-bay wind-braced roof with cruck trusses over
house and barn. Upper east end room has arch-braced centre truss
and c1400 fireplace with flat stone hood and moulded top course.
Fireplace has 1390 RE scratched. Ground floor room east of cross
passage has Tudor-arched fireplace and massive beams. East end room
has partially exposed moulded stone fireplace and heavy chamfered
beam. C16 rear wing has heavy joisted floor to. south end only. 2-
bay roof with 2 windbraces at north end only. North end floor
probably a later insertion. North end timber-lintel fireplace.
Between main house and wing an oak Tudor-arched doorway with
original window to right. Barn range has heavy joisted floor to
centre bay only. House may date back to C13 but roof and major
part probably dates from after 1388 when it passed to New College,
Oxford.
