GV II

House. C16 core with mid-C19 extensions. Timber-framed and roughcast rendered; slate roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, cellar and attic. One window to each storey, both 12-pane sashes in flush cased frames. One flat-headed dormer has a 2-light small-paned casement window. A 6-panel door in a plain wood doorcase. INTERIOR: cellar, with a north wall of small stone blocks and a vaulted ceiling of old red brick, probably C17, but painted. The timber-framed front range is in one bay. An exposed ceiling on the ground storey has a large chamfered main beam and unchamfered joists set flat. On the upper storey part of the original back wallplate is visible, indicating that the roof was considerably raised in the C19 to make a higher upper room and a large attic. At the same time an additional block in red brick and flint was added on the back, doubling the ground area of the house. There are now further C20 single storey extensions at the rear. It seems very likely that this house was originally one with No.13 (qv): the internal chimney-stack is shared between them, although C19 modernisation must have taken place at different times.
