C18 frontages (Nos 4 and 6), and late C17 (No 7). These 2 storey houses
occupy 5 sides of a square and enclose a sunken forecourt reached by steps
from road and bounded by a low wall with plain iron railings and gate.
Left-hand projection: end elevation is ashlar-faced, with gable and slate
roof. Semi-circular-headed doorway (No 4) at road level, with moulded
surround, keystone and imposts. Fixed-light window to left of door, glazing
bars, 2ol panes. Moulded string at 1st floor level, with plain band above
and cut stone brackets between, forming frieze. 1 sash window in reveals
on 1st floor, glazing bars. Inside facing elevation has one fixed-light
window on ground floor and one sash window above. Semi-circular-headed
doorway at forecourt level. Central elevation: rubble with stone-tiled
roof and dormer. Formerly divided vertically by a rusticated central
pilaster in ashlar. Moulded base of the pilaster survives. The front
still retains its moulded string, plain frieze, and moulded cornice with
ashlar parapet. On the ground floor and to left of pilaster is sash window
with glazing bars and semi-circular-headed doorway with keystone and imposts
(No 4), and to right of pilaster a square-headed doorway (No 6) with 1
sash window above. Right-hand projection: road elevation has gable, but
neither window nor door. Inside-facing elevation has gable with attic
window 2-light casement with moulded stone mullion and dripmould. On
1st floor are 2 similar, but 3-light, windows, on ground floor 2 modern
sashes in reveals, and plain square-headed doorway (No 7).
Well Close Lodge and Nos 4, 6 and 7 form a group.
