WEST LAVINGTON A360 SU 05 SW (west side) 6/271 Hunt's House 19.3.62 II House. Early C19, incorporating work of mid C18. Roughcast on brick with slate roof, and earlier work of greensand rubble with stone quoins. Two storeys and cellars. Original building set parallel to road, 3 bays, with central hall and entrance to hall and internal stack. House extended early C19 by new wide north front and a west range, perhaps slightly later, added parallel to original work. Central 6-panelled door with fanlight, under Tuscan stone portico. Flanking french windows in three centred arched openings. Paned windows to first floor. Eaves boxed and roof hipped. West wing has 16-pane sash windows with gauged brick lintels. Interior has good early C19 stair in hall. Early C19 fireplace in north east sitting room. Lead hand pump and basin in rear entrance lobby. House is associated with, and probably built by, Justice William Hunt, jurist, whose work provided part of basis for the New Jersey legislature. (Notebook, 1744-9, in Wilts Record Society, 1981).
