Details
URCHFONT TOWNSEND SU 05 NW (north side) 2/238 No 5 (Townsend Cottage) II Cottage. C17 or C18 incorporating gable of C15-C16 cottage. Brick on stone sills, thatched roof. Two storeys, single bay, being the end bay of row of 5 cottages. Entrance to rear on pantiled lean-to on gable end. C20 metal windows but timber casements to upper floor. Embedded in gable wall is an exposed full cruck frame with threaded diagonal ridge apex and halved-in collar. Some timber framing to rear. Stack in gable wall. Interior has chamfered cross beams with check and scoop stops. Cambered beam with mortices form trimming to stack. Cruck frame belongs to cottage built against gable, now demolished.
