PEWSEY WILCOT ROAD SU 16 SE (north side) 6/115 Pewsey Hospital (formerly listed as Mental Defectives' 10.12.73 Colony (former Union Workhouse)
GV II
Workhouse, district hospital after 1948, now mental handicapped unit. 1836. Ashlar limestone, asbestos slate roof. Two storeys rather small in scale. Central gabled block of 5 window bays, with further bay each side, and wings each of 6 bays. Raised quoins and string course. Sixteen-paned sash windows, renewed 1980's. Dedication panel in gable with date. Central rear wing of 8 bays, and end lateral wings each of 8 bays forming double plan. Interior altered, not of special interest.
