Details

ATHERSTONE LONG STREET SP3097 (North-east side) 9/45 Nos.98 and 100 (Post Office) GV II House, now shop and post office. Late C18. Flemish bond brick with rendered string course to second floor and moulded rendered cornice. Roof not visible behind parapet. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys; 2-1-2 bays. Angles are slightly recessed. Central bay projects slightly, and with right bays forms the Post office. Early/mid C20 ground floor of limestone ashlar. Classical style. Projecting bay has moulded 4-panelled double-leaf doors and fanlight in hollow-chamfered arch with console. Tuscan Doric doorcase of half-columns and entablature. 3 windows with glazing bars have fielded panels below, with fielded pilaster panels to left and right and paired pilasters between them, under continuous entablature. No.98 to left has C20 shop front. Upper floors have 4-pane sashes throughout; Post Office has rusticated rendered flat arches with keyblocks, but No.98 has plain lintels. Interiors not inspected.
