CAMBORNE TREVENSON STREET SW 63 NW (north side) 10/103 Trevithick Memorial Statue on pavement in front of Library

GV II Memorial statue to Richard Trevithick (1771-1833), Engineer. Dated 1928; by L.S.Merrifield. White granite pedestal with bronze plaques and gilded bronze statue. Square section. Shallow step, deep plain base, tall pedestal with moulded plinth and cap surmounted by life-size statue. Each side of the plinth has a small bronze relief plaque: that on the back depicts a sail ship and is lettered:- RICHARD TREVITHICK INVENTOR OF THE LOCOMOTIVE BORN 1771 DIED 1833 The other plaques have kneeling female figures holding examples of the application of steam power, with identifying inscriptions: Cornish boiler on the front, Merthyr Tydfil Locomotive on the left side, and iron Steam and Sail Ship on the right-hand side.. The statue portrays Trevithick in forward striding pose with a pair of dividers in his raised right hand and a model of a steam locomotive cradled in his left arm. The base of the statue is inscribed "L.S.Merrifield" and "1928".
