Small house, one of a pair with The Cider Cottage (qv). Circa mid C19 altered internally and extended at the back in late C20. Plastered stone rubble. Grouted scantle slate roof with red clay ridge tiles hipped at left hand end and gable end to right abutting adjoining house (the Cider Cottage). Moulded cast iron gutters. 2 lateral stacks at the back with louvred yellow day pots. Plan: lateral stacks at the back with louvred yellow day pots central entrance, each room heated from a rear lateral stack. In the late C20 the 2 rooms were made into one large room and a large extensiion was added at the back. Exterior: 2 storeys and basement. Symmetrical 3-window south front. Tall circa mid C19 2-light casements with glazing bars and 8 panes per light. Central doorway with a late C19 glazed and panelled door and a C20 gabled porch with a slate roof. Interior: Front garden area wall, railings gate-piers and parterres. The walls have a local limestone ashlar plinth and are rustic quartz rubble above, the left hand section has cast-iron railings above the plinth with fleur-de-lis finials. A pier at the left hand end of the railings and the 2 gate-piers opposite the front doorway of the house are limestone monoliths with chamfered corners, the gate-piers have crossed-gabled tops with trefoils and inscribed Myrtle Cootage in upper case lettering. At the base of the left hand gate-pier the date 1880 and name of the mason W Blampey. The gate is C20. The path to the front doorway and the quatrefoil parterres either side have patterned cobbled paths and dressed limestone curb stones. The front garden is an interesting and unusual survival.
