GV II

House on corner site. Early C19 with possible earlier origins and late C19 alterations. Painted render over limestone rubble, slate roof hipped to the north-east and north-west; rendered stacks to the east and west slopes, the north ridge and an external stack to the east end of the north, entrance, facade in Mere Lane. L-plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic; 2-window range. To the right of the north facade is a tall external stack offset above the ground floor. To right of centre are steps down to the early C19 6-panel door in a reeded architrave with roundels to the upper corner blocks. A slate pitched-roof porch with trellised sides extends approx 5m to the street. To the left of the door are 6/6-pane sash windows to both floors. To the inside left is a lower 2-storey one-bay forward wing with a hipped slate roof and a 9-pane horizontally-pivoted window to the ground floor. The right return has a hipped dormer and C20 windows; the left return is blank; the rear has a late C19 2-storey canted bay and windows and some C20 windows. INTERIOR: the ground-floor room to the east end has a semi-elliptical arched recess; fixed shutters to the hall; some 6-panel doors and early C20 fireplaces. The projecting wing to the front has 2 rows of segmental stone arches one formerly with a locking door, probably a wine store.
