54/950 The Adelphi Hotel 14.3.75. G.V. II
1912 by Frank Atkinson. Portland stone. 7 storeys, 11 bays. Main entrance has columns in antis over the central 3 bays of semi-basement. 1st floor emphasised by round-arched windows with mask keystones and moulded. cornice. Other windows rectangular. 4th and 5th floors treated together, with giant Ionic columns in centre in front of 3 recessed bays; giant columns also in bays next to the end. Top cornice and balustrade, with 7th floor above. Wings extend to rear at obtuse angle, in truncated wedge plan, but the 4th side was never completed. Interior has columns, marble panelling, Greek details, coffered arches etc, in a remarkable series of public rooms; also original fittings in bedrooms.
