Details
SP4631 DEDDINGTON MARKET PLACE (West side) 8/198 Deddington Salerooms and Wells House
GV II Shop and dwelling now shop and offices. Probably late C17, enlarged mid C19. Coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels; clay plain-tile and concrete plain-tile roof with brick stacks. L-plan house plus shop range. 2 storeys plus attic. Regular 2-window front of house, rising from a moulded plinth, has a recessed central 6-panel door in a moulded frame with overlight, and has renewed 3-light casements; ground-floor openings have stop-chamfered lintels. Steep-pitched roof, which has a large gabled roof dormer and a parapet to the right gable, has stacks both ends and extends to left over the shop range. C19 projecting shop front has large arched lights and cants inward to a central double door; first-floor windows of one, 3 and 3 lights have C19 casements with Tudor-arched lights. Rear wing of house returns from left and has an adjoining parallel range to rear of the shop. Interior: winder stair; mid-C19 plaster cornices and joinery.
