Details

WALLSEND HUGH STREET (north side) NZ 26 NE 6/157 Social Services Area Office. G.V. II Vicarage, now Social Services offices. 1903; land given by G.B. Hunter. Snecked sandstone with plinth and ashlar dressings; plain-tiled roof. 2 storeys and attics; 4 x 3 bays and low one-bay pent left extension. Part-glazed double door recessed under keyed arch in third bay; tripartite sashes in first bay; canted bay windows in second; sashes above door and in fourth bay, all with glazing bars. Right return has canted bay windows flanking blind ground floor and first floor sash. Projecting stone sills and flat stone lintels to all windows. Floor band; modillioned eaves cornice. 2 hipped dormers with tripartite sashes, one altered and one with smaller casement windows. Tall corniced chimneys. Included partly for group value with Church of St. Luke.
