SS 43 NE GEORGEHAM CHURCH ROAD (north side), Georgeham 7/119 Skirr Cottage, Clare Cottage and - Verbena Cottage 25.2.65 GV II
Row of 3 cottages, formerly 4, C18, extended at left end in C19. Rendered rubble and cob. Continuous thatch roof with gable ends to main range, with 4 lateral stacks to rear all heightened in brick, end 2 to right rebuilt with breeze-blocks, all enclosed in outshuts with corrugated iron roofs to right and slated roof to left, single storey except at left which is 2 storeys. Left end extension has pantiled roof to front, and slated catslide roof to rear. Brick stack at left gable end. Single room depth in plan, the thatched range forming continuous row with left end extension set forward slightly. 2 storeys. Thatched range has 8 window range of mainly C19. 2-light casements, 3 replaced with metal casements towards left end. Ground floor from left end has 2-light casement, 4 panes each light to left and two C20 metal casements to right of half-glazed panelled door with gabled canopy. Clare Cottage has sash with single panes with marginal glazing bars to each sash to right of plank door with gabled canopy. Single light windows flank 2-light casement and stable door with gabled canopy to Skirr Cottage at right end. Extension to left end has 2 sashes with marginal glazing bars above similar large sash with 2 light casement to left and half-glazed bars and wooden canopy above. Skirr Cottage was formerly the residence of Henry Williamson, the author of Tarka the Otter.
