6/121 Kittiwell Hotel (formerly listed as - Kittiwell House) 26.1.76 GV II
Farmhouse, now hotel, early C16 origins with possibly earlier features concealed, extended to rear in C20. Whitewashed rendered stone rubble with some cob. Thatch roof with rubble stacks to each gable end of main range with slate weatherings. Off centre stack to rear, probably originally stack backing onto cross-passage in 3-cell plan, but all interior partitions have been altered. 2 porchways, that to right now blocked, and lath and plaster partition in roofspace suggests later conversion into 2 dwellings. Main range considerably extended at lower end by 2 former outbuildings probably stables and granary, now converted into part of dwelling. Large right-angled C20 extension to rear. Main range 2 storeys. 9 window range of mainly C19 casements. Scattered fenestration. Gabled porch at lower end with slate roof. Lean-to thatched roof to former porch now with 2 casements to front at upper end. Former outbuildings at lower end has 5-window range of C19 windows over 3 plank doors. Stopped and chamfered beams to hall and lower end and stopped and chamfered lintels to gable end fireplaces. 7 roof trusses are straight principals, 2 at upper end have 2 tiers of threaded purlins, the remainder are more roughly hewn, the 2 at lower end have lower ridge height, probably replacing earlier trusses through with some of the smoke-blackened rafters retained.
