Details
ELLESMERE RURAL C.P. COLEMERE SJ 43 SW 9/101 The Old Vicarage and - attached outbuildings GV II Vicarage, now house. Probably c.1870 by G.E. Street for Marian, Viscountess Alford with minor later additions and alterations. Rock- faced sandstone ashlar with sprocketed eaves and coped verges on carved stone kneelers. 2 storeys with moulded floor band and stepped diagonal buttresses to corners. Slightly irregular 2- and 3-light stone mullioned windows with cast-iron latticed lights, 3 directly below eaves to first floor with one to left and 2 to right of double-chamfered pointed doorway to left of centre. This has diagonally boarded door with decorated strap hinges and windows to left and right, latter a lancet. Single-chamfered pointed recess with carving of cross directly above entrance. Integral end stacks to left and right, ridge stack to right of centre and internal stack to rear left corner, all with moulded capping. Double-chamfered pointed doorway to right gable end. 2-storey lean-to to rear on left. Contemporary single-storey L-shaped outbuildings attached at right-angles to rear on left. Interior. Encaustic tiles to hall (right end of house), which has original pitch-pine staircase.
