29 Walkmills

II

Cottage, now part of larger house. Mid-C17 with late C19 and late C20 alterations and additions. Timber framed with painted brick nogging, front wall rebuilt and the whole extended in C19 brown brick; plain tile roof. Two-framed bays with additions. One storey and attic. Framing: square panels (three from sole plate to wall plate) with short straight corner braces; scotches. South front: Two eaves dormers (reconstructed in C20) with two-light wooden casements and tile-hung gables; integral brick end stack to right. Two-light wooden casement to right; two glazed doors to left, that to right with segmental head. Late C19 and late C20 additions to left of no special interest. Catslide roof over probably early C18 timber framed outshut at rear. Right-hand gable end has collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts.

Interior: timber framed cross wall; chamfered spine beams with ogee stops and plain wide joists; large open fireplace with lintel; C17 ogee-headed chamfered doorway.

Despite later alterations and additions this cottage is included for its largely surviving frame and its internal features.
