Betton Strange Hall (Flats Nos.1-18)

Country house, now divided. Mid-C19 with late C19 remodelling. Painted render, lined as ashlar, with grey sandstone ashlar dressings; hipped slate roofs. Irregular L-plan; remodelled in a Queen Anne Revival style.

Two storeys and attic with projecting three storey wings. Second floor cill band to wings, stone and wooden dentil eaves cornice; five eaves dormers to centre block with wooden two-light; casements and alternating segmental and triangular pediments, and five eaves dormers to rear with triangular pediments; external brick stack to front of right-hand wing, four brick stacks to centre block, and four brick stacks to left-hand block and service wing extending to rear. 2:5:2 bays, four-pane and glazing bar sashes with moulded architraves, segmental-headed to ground-floor in central five bays; two blank ground-floor bays to right; central pair of three-panelled doors with glazed overlight under segmental head; central late C19 five bay ashlar loggia with square end piers, Tuscan columns supporting moulded cornice, and panelled parapet with globe finials above the centre of each arch. Three bay right-hand return front with two storey canted hipped-roofed bay, and seven bay left-hand return front; late C19 square ashlar bay with balcony above at rear.

Interior not inspected but noted as having entrance hall with late C19 three bay screen leading to staircase hall containing late C19 three-flight square well staircase with open string, chamfered stick balusters, wreathed and ramped moulded handrail, curtail, and fluted columnar newel post; ground floor room to east noted as having a late C19 round-arched fireplace.

The Church of St. Margaret (q.v.) of 1858 stands in the grounds and may be contemporary with the earliest parts of the house.
