Farmhouse. Late C16 and early to mid-C17, partly rebuilt and extended in the early C19. Timber framed with red brick nogging and red brick; plain tile roofs. Framing: C17 square panels; late C18 or early C19 studs with thin rails. 2 parallel ranges of 2 framed bays each to rear with later range to front. One-storey and attic with 3 storey front range. Projecting eaves band and external brick end stacks. 3 bays; 2-light wooden casements with stone cills and lintels. Central 6-panelled door (top 4 panels glazed) with radial fanlight and doorcase with pilaster strips, moulded impost band and brackets supporting moulded cornice; canted open grey sandstone ashlar porch with pair of stubby Tuscan columns resting on low brick walls and supporting frieze and moulded cornice (continuing above flanking windows) and central triangular pediment. Rear wall of early C19 block is of light timber framing with brick nogging. Pair of gabled rear wings: c.1600 to south with brick underbuilding and other alterations, and integral brick end stack. Early to mid-C17 to north with rendered plinth, jettied first floor with quarter-round moulded bressumer and first-floor corner posts with pendant-shaped feet. Jettied gable end with quarter-round moulded bressumer, one and a half gabled semi dormers and central brick ridge stack. Further C19 additions at rear. Interior: chamfered beams in rear wings. Early C19 staircase in front range with open string, stick balusters, and turned newel post. It appears that the framing of the north rear wing has been altered, probably the late C18 or early C19, possibly when the front range was added; the structure appears to be C17 but the framing with wide studs and thin unpegged rails is not typical of that date, though no doubt many of the earlier timbers were reused.
