Squatter's cottage. C17, extended and partly re-built in late C18
with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with red brick
infill replacing wattle and daub; addition in local gritstone rubble,
plain tile roof. Single-cell plan extended in late C18 by addition
of right-hand bay; front wall re-built at this time. One storey and gable-
lit attic; framing: exposed to left gable end and back wall of left-
hand bay, square panels, 2 from cill to wall-plate and 5 across, short
straight tension braces; mid-C19 casements with segmental brick heads to
left and right of C20 half-glazed door under contemporary gabled wooden
porch; internal red brick stack behind ridge to left and external red
brick stack to right with C19 stone lean-to abutting. Interior: timber
frame substantially intact to C17 part including present cross-wall
with long straight tension braces; left-hand ground-floor room has chamfered
spine beam with broach stop and another chamfered spine beam to right-
hand ground-floor room, oak newel staircase to back wall; single-purlin
roof with central truss (former gable end) of Queen-strut construction.
