9/99 Wigley Farmhouse -
GV II Farmhouse. Probably c.1600, refronted probably late C19. Red brick front; stone rubble to right gable end; left end gable rendered; plain tile roof; 2 brick ridge stacks. T-shaped plan, front range of 3 rooms with lobby entry extended to 4 with later additions to stem of T at rear. South-east front: single storey plus attic; 2-window range of casements in canted bays; plank door to right in line with stack. Small single-light (probably stair) window to left of centre under eaves; 2 gabled dormers. Right gable end has ground-floor and attic 3-light casements. The house is now entered through a later lean-to addition to rear. Interior: reported to have large open fireplace at north-west end with probably original winder staircase in east corner. 2 rooms to centre of main range also reported to have deeply chamfered ceiling beams. Rear range reported to have cellar. Permission to inspect both the interior and exterior of Wigley Farmhouse was refused at the time of resurvey (August 1985). Information about the interior of the house is taken from a MSS plan in Shropshire Record Office, prepared during fieldwork for the Victoria County History. (SRO 3763/30/3),No. V; C.
