BOMERE HEATH C.P. PRESTON GUBBALS SJ 41 NE 6/102 Barn approx. 60 metres to - north-east of Manor Farmhouse GV II

Barn. Late C17. Weatherboarded timber frame (the side weather- boarding set in grooves between the frame) on chamfered red sandstone ashlar plinth with herringbone tooling. Slate roof. Framing: square panels (3 from sole plate to wall plate) with long straight tension braces. Five framed bays. North-west front with pairs of central boarded doors and 3 boarded loft doors, and south-east front with pair of central boarded doors, boarded door to right, and 3 boarded loft doors. Boarded loft doors in gable ends. Interior: tie-beam trusses with raking struts, and collar and tie-beam end trusses with queen struts. Pairs of purlins. Cross frames on low stone walls with sole plates, long straight tension braces and central posts. Some reused timbers. Weather-boarding set between the frame is not common but a C17 example exists at Hodnet in North Shropshire.
