BOMERE HEATH C.P. - SJ 41 NW 5/47 Gates, gate piers and - flanking walls approx. 5 metres to north-east of Shrewsbury Lodge
GV II
Gates, gate piers and flanking walls. Circa 1892, by Aston Webb. Red sandstone ashlar on dressed red sandstone plinths. Wall and gates approx- imately 30 metres long, returning to north at the east end. Pair of square gate piers, each with chamfered plinth,projections on each face with scrolled tops, moulded string to frieze, moulded cornice and cap with globe finial. Pair of large ornamental wrought-iron gates with dog bars, ornamental lock and top bars, central panel to each gate with scrollwork, and elaborate scrolled cresting with repoussé work. Pedestrian gateway to west consisting of plain square pier with domed cap and ornamental wrought-iron gate with elaborate overthrow. Flanking walls, with chamfered plinth, plain balus- trading, ramped coping, and square end piers with domed caps. This gateway and the associated Shrewsbury Lodge (q.v.) was formerly the principal entrance to Yeaton Peverey (q.v.), also by Aston Webb, but the drive is now disused.
