Farmhouse. C14 or C15 with C16 cross wing, all much rebuilt in the
mid-to late C19. Red brick, partly rendered, incorporating a
timber-framed core partly of cruck construction. Slate roofs. L-plan; former
hall house of three framed bays with projecting gabled cross wing to left
of three framed bays. One storey and attic with cross wing of two storeys
and gable-lit attic. Central truncated brick ridge stack to hall range,
and brick ridge stack and external brick end stack to cross wing. Hall
range: small attic casement beneath eaves off-centre to left and ground-
floor segmental-headed 2-light wooden casement off-centre to right, formerly
a doorway (see straight joints beneath). Boarded loft door in right-
hand gable end. Rear with hipped eaves dormer, two segmental-headed openings
to left (one a garage and the other blocked) and various inserted C20
casements. Cross wing: 2-windows to gable end; 2-and 3-light segmental-
headed wooden casements. Right-hand return front with two
segmental-headed 2-light wooden casements to first floor and one to ground floor,
and segmental-headed half-glazed 4-panelled door to left with gabled
porch.
INTERIOR: hall range formerly a hall house with a one-bay floored
end to left and a 2-or 3-bay open hall to right. Cruck frames with
cambered collars, that at the right-hand end with peg holes for former
arched bracing. Single purlins with curved wind braces. Left-hand
ground-floor room has a pair of probably C14 or C15 deep-chamfered ceiling
beams with ogee stops, resting on shaped brackets at left-hand end.
Ground-floor rear room of cross wing with two chamfered ceiling beams,
and fireplace with roll-moulded segmental wooden lintel. C17 panelled
doors and old nail-studded boarded door to first floor.
