Details

HOPESAY C.P. BROOME SO 48 SW 5/146 Broome Farmhouse - GV II

Farmhouse. Probably early C17, remodelled late C17 or C18, extended late C19 with later additions and alterations. Rendered timber frame and uncoursed limestone rubble; painted brick addition; slate roofs. 3-cell baffle-entry plan with late C19 addition at right-angles to rear on right. 2 storeys and gable-lit attic. Irregular fenestration; 2 mid-C19 cast-iron casements to first floor of rubblestone part with another to lower left and to ground floor of timber framed part, which is jettied on first floor to front. Boarded door with narrow rectangular overlight to far right of rubblestone part with red brick ridge stack directly above. Full-length stone outshut to rear has 2 gabled eaves dormers. Interior: inspection not possible at time of resurvey (September 1986) but noted as having chamfered spine beam to left ground-floor room.
