GLANTON THE CAUSEWAY NU 0714 (South side) Glanton Village 21/194 Whickham House with attached 10.1.53 outbuildings to east (formerly listed as The Villa) GV II M House, dated 1692 with initials I M on rear door, altered in C18 and early C19; rear wing dated l893 on door lintel, but incorporating earlier fabric; outbuilding late C18 or early C19. Squared stone with rubble to rear; cut dressings; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, symmetrical. Central C20 glazed door in C18 stone surround, inside late C20 half-glazed porch. Renewed 12-pane sash windows, ground floor right in former doorway; surrounds re-use M older dressings including lintel inscribed I B 1731 (now left jamb of 1st floor right window). Hipped roof with 2 stepped-and-corniced ridge stacks and lateral stack on left return, all rebuilt C20. Left return shows renewed 12-pane sash on 1st floor. Rear central 12-pane sash stair window and 12-pane sash below 9-pane fixed window on right, all in chamfered stone surrounds. On left is end of rear wing with 6-pane fixed window and 8-pane sash, 12-pane sash above and hipped roof; older masonry in lower part of wall extends to left into adjacent outbuilding with boarded door and double doors under segmental arch. Right return of wing shows half-glazed door with dated lintel, paired 12-pane sashes, and single 12-pane sash on 1st floor.

Interior: original rear doorway, with flat-pointed head within chamfered square frame, now open into wing. Other parts not seen; said to be much altered.

South porch is not of special interest.,
