GV II
Farmhouse, now derelict. Late C16 or early C17, remodelled early to mid-C18 with C19 additions and alterations. Painted red brick on stepped rubblestone plinth,encapsulating timber frame; painted brick and rubblestone additions; graded slate roof with crow-step gables to C18 part. C18 house a basic T-plan with truncated earlier timber framed range running parallel with main range in angle to rear on left; main range extended to left in mid-to late C19. 2 storeys with continuous double floor band to first floor and shorter bands to gables, corbelled to right gable end of main range. Main range has C20 top-hung casement to left on ground floor with segmental-headed C19 casement directly above. Gable end has 2 casements to ground floor with segmental-headed C19 casement to first floor. Short range has segmental-headed casement to right and segmental- headed C18 leaded casement to gable end on first floor. Entrance through boarded door in angle with main range; prominent red brick ridge stack directly above in 2 sections with moulded capping forms baffle entry. C19 addition has segmental-headed casements on both floors with segmental- headed doorway to right; integral brick end stack. Framing: exposed to rear of truncated timber framed range; square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate with rendered infill and remains of rubblestone catslide outshut abutting. This incorporates one panel of former continuation of range to right; present gable end clad in early C20 painted brick. Interior. Complete inspection not possible at time of resurvey (November 1986) owing to dangerous condition but following features noted. Chamfered ceiling beams to ground-floor rooms including twin spine beams and heavy joists to rear range, which has large stack with C19 fireplace. Plank and muntin screen to centre of main range; close-set vertical posts to later partition wall running at right-angles. Semi-winder staircase. Plank doors throughout, several with fleur-de-lys pointed strap hinges. Wide boarded oak floor boards on first floor. Double-purlin roof in 2 bays with central collar and tie beam truss to main range and similar roof in 1½ bays to short range. One bay of single-purlin roof survives to timber framed range with queen-strut truss to present gable end. Cast-iron pump in C19 addition (former dairy) which has tile floor and slate shelves; plain spine beam and heavy joists.
