GV II
House, latterly inn, now part of garage. Late C16 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with plaster and red brick infill rendered to front, slate roof. L-plan with street frontage of 2 or 3 framed bays and long 4-bay range (end bay now removed and completely re-built) to rear. 2 storeys; framing: exposed to left side of long range, large square and rectangular panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate with wattle and daub infill visible below some of the plastered panels; street frontage has 2 three-light horizontal sliding sashes without glazing bars below eaves, ground floor has late C20 top-hung casement to left and contemporary shop front to left of former carriage entrance, now with late C20 trade sign over; reddish brown brick ridge stack to right and large stone stack with red brick shaft behind ridge at junction with range to rear; staircase projection to rear in angle with long range. Interior: moulded bressumer along right side of long range shows that it was formerly jettied; chamfered ceiling beams, some with straight-cut stops to main ground-floor rooms. Roof trusses of long range covered by wallpaper at time of re-survey (August 1985). Flat-roofed late C20 re-building of former end bay of long range is not of special architectural interest.
