Details
TL 6221 GREAT DUNMOW STORTFORD ROAD (S SIDE) 8/6 No. 67 High Stile GV II
House, mid C17 and possibly earlier. Timber framed and plastered with concrete plain tile roofs, gabled on W end and with hipped crosswing at E end. 'T' shaped plan form. Crosswing is of 2 storeys and rest is of one storey with attics. Front has C20 gabled porch, 2 gabled dormers and mixture of old, cast iron, and C20 casements all with leaded lights. Off-centre ridge line stack over big C17 inglenook fireplace. Interior of crosswing reveals mid C17 timber framing with jowled posts and straight bracing halved into.studs within front, 'solar' bay. To the rear the framing is less well organised. Central truss has serpentine curved queen struts to support side purlins roof. Hall is contemporary or earlier with inserted floor. W end bay is C20 extension.
