Farmhouse, now 2 cottages. Dated 1708 with later additions and alterations.
Roughly coursed limestone rubble; stone slate roof with coped verges. 2 storeys
and attic. Slightly irregularly spaced 3-window front, all 2-light chamfered
mullion windows with dripstones (those to first floor directly below eaves)
except for one of 3 lights to lower right, which has date "1708" scratched on
lintel. Slightly recessed segmental-headed boarded doors to left and right of
centre window, latter with C20 narrow rectangular window to right. Integral end
stacks to left and right with moulded dripstones and capping. Further mullion
windows to rear where attic is lit by C19 gabled dormers in roof slope.
Interior. Inspection of Old Post Office (right cottage) only possible at time
of resurvey (August 1987). This has chamfered spine beam with stepped stops and
chamfered joists to ground-floor room; remodelled inglenook fireplace with
chamfered wood lintel has oak winder staircase to left rising to attic. First
floor has chamfered cross beam with stepped stops and chamfered joists to both
rooms. Stone fireplace to right room has chamfered wood lintel with stepped ogee
stops. Wide oak floor boards and plank butt-purlin roof in 2 bays with chamfered
principal rafters to centre. C20 flat-roofed addition to left gable end and C20
lean-to to right continued to rear are not of special architectural interest.
