GV II
Bale tomb. William Richardson Faulkner died 1903. Golden ashlar. Enriched moulded panels; centre of long sides with putti and garlands of fruit in high relief. Spiral bale in 2 parts, scallop end to west, relief of crucifixion to East. Frieze inscribed "JUXTA: FIDEM: DEFUNCTI: SUNT: OMNES: ISTI: NON: ACCEPTIS: REPROMISSIONIBUS: SED: A: LONGE: ASPICIENTES: ET: SALUTANTES : ET: CONFIDENTES: QUIA: PELEGRINI : ET: HOSPITES: SUNT: SUPER: TERRAM." The lettering and the carving are both unmistakably early C20 but the form of the tomb is a convincing replica. This -is also a memorial to John Meade Faulkner (died 1936).
