House. Late C15 for the Yate family; remodelled C17; late C18 rear wing; mid C19 alterations to front, and extensions, Originally timber-framed: close-studding to porch and to left part of front, on limestone rubble plinth. Rest of coursed limestone rubble. Gabled stone slate roof; C18 brick left end stack; C17 stone ashlar right end stack finished in mid C19 brick, mid C19 brick right end stack. Two-storey hall house with porch, of which part of hall and parlour survives, two storeys; four-window range. Late C15 two-storey porch has C20 door and late C15 four-light hollow-chamfered wood-mullioned windows to sides; similar first-floor front window with mid C19 mullions and C15 cinquefoiled heads. Blocked C15 hall window, beneath eaves, to left of porch. Mid C19 three-light casement, and mid C19 tripartite sashes above two canted bay windows with sashes to right and to gabled right bay rebuilt in mid C19. Late C18 rear right wing of similar materials and C19 rear extensions.

Interior: C15 parlour to right has quartered and moulded beams with the Yate gate device carved on each boss; moulded cornice and quatrefoil frieze with Tudor roses and cross-keys to overmantleover rebuilt C15 fireplaces Timber framing exposed on rear wall has hollow-chamfered jamb of former C15 doorway. First floor has late C15 hollow-chamfered fireplace with red-ochre spandrels and moulded cornice. Hollow-chamfered arch-braced roof only partly visible.

Subsidiary features: approximately 35 metres of C18 limestone rubble stone-coped wall attached to C18 thatched stone and weatherboarded outbuilding on right.
