Details
WOODSTOCK MARKET PLACE SP4416NW (East side) 9/144 No.2 13/02/69 GV II House and shop. c.1760. Limestone ashlar; limestone rubble to rear. Gabled concrete tile roof; end stack of stone finished in brick. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic; symmetrical 3-window range. Flat stone arches over 6-panelled door with overlight, and over 6-pane sashes. Raised storey bands; hipped dormers with mid C19 six-pane sashes. Stair-turret to rear. Interior: mid C18 cupboard niche to left; quarter-turn stairs with winders have mid/late C19 balustrade. History: elevation of same date and style as No.1 High Street (q.v.). The Eldridge family sold the famous Woodstock steel jewelry from this shop to tourists visiting Blenheim Palace: they tried to prevent erection of Town Hall (q.v.) in front of shop.
