Summerhouse. Late C18. Timber with a Stonesfield slate cladding and roof. Back-to back three-quarter circular alcoves in Chinoiserie style. Front of each alcove has a round-headed archway below a shallow pediment, and has fretwork scrolls infilling the spandrels and pediment. The slate-clad sides are serpentine, and the roof is surmounted by a square cupola with Chinese-trellis balustrade, open fretwork frieze of bells and an ogee roof with wooden finial. Interior: each alcove has a wooden vault radiating from a central rosette, and is furnished with white Chinoiserie curved benches with trellis backs and foot rests.
Summerhouse stands between two lakes in the gardens of Sandford Park.
