CURBRIDGE BRIZE NORTON ROAD SP3308 (North side) 16/350 Church of St. John the Baptist

- II*

Church. 1906, by Nicholson and Corlette. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and aisled nave. Arts and Crafts Mediterranean style. Pointed lancets to one-bay chancel. chimney-like belfry adjoins south aisle, which has row of chamfered polygonal lights beneath eaves; similar smaller belfry adjoins porch, which has chamfered round-arched doorway with imposts and lean-to to left. 3 lancets to north wall of nave. West gable has nowy headed hood mould above round window and chamfered one-light windows. Interior: C13-style triple piscina. Pulpit and low chancel screen, have painted decoration and bench ends, and choir stalls have similar moulded candelabra. Octagonal font with carved lid. Boarded roof has painted tie beams, ribs and ashlar plates. Early C20 stained glass. (Buildings of England: Oxfordshire: p567)
