LETCOMBE BASSETT SU38SE 7/115 Downs House 25/10/51 GV II

House. Probably C17 and later. Late C18 and C19 Flemish bond brick to centre, rendered over probable original timber frame to left side wing, which has club- and plain-tile cladding to rear gable wall; to right of centre is club- and plain-tile cladding to first floor over brick ground floor; tiled roof; brick stacks. 2-storey to left and centre, 1 1/2-storey to right, 6-window range to first floor. Single C20 light to left gable; 2-window range to centre of segmental arches over late C19 horned sashes and one-light window adjoining 6- panelled C20 door on left, which has carved consoles to flat hood and moulded architrave of c.1900; to right are late C19 horned sashes to 3 gabled dormers and 4 ground floor windows. Dentilled eaves to central block. Gabled roof; ridge, end and internal stacks. Interior not inspected but likely to be of interest. 1 1/2 storey late C19 wing built against front left wall. To rear of central and right block is early C19 2-storey block: 7-window range of segmental arches over C20 door to right and late C19 horned sashes; dentilled eaves.
